Block Blast

This page lets you play a free web version of Block Blast right in your browser, with nothing to download or install. blockblast.co is an unofficial fan site. The original Block Blast app is developed by Hungry Studio and distributed on the App Store and Google Play. The rules below describe the web version on this site.

• The board is 8×8.
• Each round you get 3 blocks. When all 3 are placed, you get a new set of 3.
• You cannot turn blocks. They come in different orientations, and you place each one exactly as shown.
• Fill an entire row or column to clear it. If several rows and columns fill up at the same time, they all clear together.
• The game ends when none of the blocks you still have fits anywhere on the board.

• Drag a block from the tray onto the board with your mouse or finger.
• While you drag, the board previews where the block will land and which lines it will clear.
• Release to place it. If the spot is not valid, the block goes back to the tray.
• Use the speaker button to turn sound on or off.

• Every block you place scores 1 point per cell.
• Clearing lines scores a base value that grows with the number of lines cleared at once, multiplied by your current combo.
• Clearing again within 3 placements of your last clear keeps the combo going.
• Clearing the whole board gives a 300-point bonus.

Knowing the shapes helps you keep room for the pieces that are hardest to fit.

Lines also come vertically. A 1×5 line needs 5 free cells in a straight row or column, so keep at least one long gap open.

2×3 Rectangle

The 3×3 square is the largest block (9 cells). It is often the hardest block to fit, so try to keep a 3×3 space free.

There is also a single 1×1 block, which is handy for plugging a one-cell hole.

1. Plan all 3 blocks before placing the first. The order matters: placing one block can clear a line and open space for the next.
2. Keep a big open area. Leave room for a 3×3 square and a 1×5 line whenever you can.
3. Avoid single-cell holes. A hole surrounded on all sides can only be filled by a 1×1 block and blocks the whole row and column.
4. Build along the edges. Filling edges and corners first keeps the middle open for large blocks.
5. Set up several lines at once. Clearing 2 or more lines in one move is worth far more than clearing them one by one.

1. Parallel lines: Fill several neighboring rows or columns to the same gap, then clear them together with a line block.
2. Cross clears: Prepare a row and a column that share one empty cell. A single block in that cell clears both.
3. Keep the chain alive: Leave one almost-finished line ready so you can clear again within 3 placements and keep the combo multiplier growing.

1. Look for any placement that clears a line, even a single one, to win back space.
2. Place the largest block first while it still fits, and keep the small ones for tight spots.
3. Avoid moves that split the open space into small, separate pockets.

Can I play on my phone? Yes. The web version works in mobile browsers and supports touch dragging.

Do I need to install anything? No. The game runs directly in your browser.

Is it free? Yes, the web version on this site is free to play.

Is my progress saved? Your best score and sound setting are saved locally in your browser. A game in progress is not saved, so reloading the page starts a new game.
