How to Play WorldGuessr: Controls, Scoring and Tips

WorldGuessr is a free geography game similar to GeoGuessr. You start somewhere in the world in Street View and try to work out where you are. This guide explains how a round works, the main game modes, how scoring works and which clues help you guess more accurately. blockblast.co is an unofficial fan site; the game itself is available at worldguessr.com.

How a Round Works

  1. You land in Street View. The location is random on the map you picked.
  2. Explore and look for clues. Move along the road, turn the camera and zoom in on details.
  3. Place your pin. Open the map, zoom to the area you think is right and drop a pin.
  4. Press Guess. The result shows your pin, the real location, the distance between them and your points for the round.

A standard singleplayer game on the World map has 5 rounds. At the end you see your total score and the details of each round.

Controls

  • Move: Click the arrows on the ground to move along the road.
  • Look around: Drag the view to turn the camera.
  • Zoom: Zoom in on signs, or zoom the map in and out to place your pin precisely.
  • Hint: Press the Hint button to draw a circle on the map around the area of the location.

Game Modes

  • Singleplayer: Play the World map, a country map or a community map. You can turn a timer on or off and choose Moving, No moving or NMPZ (no moving, panning or zooming).
  • Duels: 1v1 duels, ranked or unranked, and 2v2 team duels. Both sides see the same location, and the closer guess takes health from the other side.
  • Party: A private lobby for friends. Share the link, choose the map and rules, and play the same rounds together.
  • Daily Challenge: The same 3 locations for everyone each day, 60 seconds per round.
  • Country Guesser and Continent Guesser: Instead of placing a pin, choose the country or continent.

Scoring

Each round is worth up to 5,000 points. The closer your pin is to the real location, the higher your score. In a 5-round singleplayer game on the World map, the maximum total is 25,000 points.

Finding Clues

Signs and Language

  • Language and script: The language on signs narrows the region quickly. For example, Cyrillic letters point to countries that use that alphabet, such as Russia or Ukraine.
  • Place names: A town name on a road sign can be searched on the map.
  • Web addresses and phone numbers: Country domains such as .fr or .de on shops and billboards are strong hints.

Cars and Roads

  • Driving side: Cars drive on the left in countries such as the United Kingdom, Japan and Australia, and on the right in most of Europe and the Americas.
  • License plates: Many European Union plates have a blue strip on the left.
  • Road markings and signs: Line colors and sign designs differ between countries, so note the ones you learn.

Landscape and Buildings

  • Vegetation and climate: Palm trees and dense jungle suggest tropical regions; conifer forests and snow suggest colder, northern areas; dry, sparse land suggests deserts.
  • Architecture: Building materials, roof shapes and colors often match a region.
  • The sun: If you can tell which way shadows fall, it can help you tell the northern and southern hemispheres apart.

Narrowing Down Your Guess

  1. Pick the continent: Use the strongest clues first, such as language, driving side and climate.
  2. Rule out regions: Exclude places that do not match what you see.
  3. Refine the pin: Once you know the country, use roads, rivers, coastlines and terrain to get closer.

Do not spend too long on one detail. If a clue does not help, move on to another.

Using Hints

The Hint button is most useful when you have no idea which part of the world you are in. It narrows the area to a circle on the map; you still need clues inside that circle to place an accurate pin.

Practice Tips

  • Review your rounds: After each round, compare your pin with the real location and note which clue you missed.
  • Keep a notebook: Record distinctive features of countries you see often, such as plates or road signs.
  • Play country and community maps: Focus on regions where you are least confident.
  • Try the Daily Challenge: Everyone plays the same locations, so it is a good way to compare your progress.
