WorldGuessr FAQ
Answers to common questions about playing WorldGuessr: how it works, game modes, scoring and tips for better guesses.
What is WorldGuessr?
WorldGuessr is a free geography game similar to GeoGuessr. You are dropped somewhere in the world in Street View, look around for clues, and place a pin on the map where you think you are. The closer your pin is to the real location, the more points you score.
Is WorldGuessr free to play?
Yes. WorldGuessr is free, and there is no limit on how many rounds you can play.
Is blockblast.co the official WorldGuessr site?
No. blockblast.co is an unofficial fan site that lets you play WorldGuessr in your browser. The game itself is available at worldguessr.com.
How do I play WorldGuessr?
Each round shows you a Street View location. Explore it, look for clues, then open the map, drop a pin where you think you are and press Guess. The result screen shows your pin, the real location, the distance between them and the points you earned.
Key Controls:
- Move: Click the arrows on the ground to move along the road.
- Look around: Drag the view to turn the camera.
- Zoom: Zoom in on signs and details, or zoom the map in and out to place your pin precisely.
- Hint: Press the Hint button if you are stuck.
What game modes are there?
- Singleplayer: Play on the world map or on a community map, with or without a timer. You can also choose Moving, No moving or NMPZ (no moving, panning or zooming).
- Duels: 1v1 duels (ranked or unranked) and 2v2 team duels against other players. The closer guess wins the round and takes health from the other side.
- Party: A private lobby where you share a link with friends and play the same rounds together.
- Daily Challenge: The same 3 locations for everyone each day, with 60 seconds per round.
- Country Guesser and Continent Guesser: Name the country or continent instead of placing a pin.
How is scoring calculated?
Each round is worth up to 5,000 points. The score depends on the distance between your guess and the real location: the closer you are, the more points you get.
What is the maximum score I can achieve?
A standard singleplayer game on the World map has 5 rounds, and the results screen shows your total out of 25,000 points (5 rounds × 5,000).
How do hints work?
In singleplayer, the Hint button draws a circle on the map that narrows down the area where the location is. It is useful when you have no idea which region you are in.
Can I play with friends?
Yes. Create a private party and send your friends the link, or play 1v1 and 2v2 duels against other players.
Can I play custom maps?
Yes. Besides the world map, WorldGuessr has country maps and a large library of maps made by players, and you can build your own with the in-game map maker.
What clues should I look for to improve accuracy?
- Languages and scripts: Text on signs and shops quickly narrows down the region.
- Driving side: Whether cars drive on the left or right rules out many countries.
- License plates and road signs: Their colors and shapes differ between countries.
- Vegetation and climate: Palm trees, deserts, snow and forests all point to different regions.
- Architecture: Building styles and materials are often typical of a region.
What strategies can help beginners?
- Start broad: Decide on the continent first, then narrow it down to a country and a region.
- Look for text first: Signs, shop names and phone numbers are often the fastest clues.
- Use hints wisely: Save them for locations where you have no idea at all.
What advanced strategies can help experienced players?
- Combine clues: Check that language, vegetation and architecture all point to the same place.
- Rule things out: Exclude regions that do not match what you see.
- Place your pin carefully: Once you know the country, use roads, coastlines and terrain to get closer.
How can I improve my skills over time?
- Review your rounds: Compare your guess with the real location and note what you missed.
- Keep notes: Write down distinctive features of countries you see often.
- Practice with specific maps: Play community or country maps for regions you find difficult.
- Play the Daily Challenge: Everyone gets the same locations, so you can compare your score.
What makes WorldGuessr different from GeoGuessr?
WorldGuessr is a separate game and is not affiliated with GeoGuessr. It follows the same idea of guessing locations from Street View, is free to play and has no round limit.
